Read your story and underline any words or sentences that you think could be improved. Then use a different coloured pen to edit your work. Look up synonyms of words to find more interesting vocabulary to use. 

Have you checked grammar and punctuation?

Have you included:

  • adjectives to describe nouns?
  • adverbs to describe actions?
  • Fronted adverbials
  • Similes
  • A variety of punctuation. 

Now, you are ready to re-draft your story.

Today, we will be learning about the Resistance by Alfred the Great and Athelstan, first king of England.

Activity 1- use this mind map to record facts that you already know and questions you would like to research about Alfred the Great. How do you think he felt about the Viking invaders?

Activity 2- Read the Anglo Saxon kings fact sheet and then answer these comprehension questions.

Activity 3 (Optional)- Use these Anglo-Saxons Story Role Play Masks to act in role as an
Anglo-Saxon king. Or you could get creative and make your own masks.
