Bumble-bees Class Blog

Welcome to Bumble-bees

Our first topic is called Enchanted lands.

Week ending 15th October

Our enquiry question this week is: What is a cycle?

The children have been thinking about the cycle of the seasons and we have been thinking of other cycles in nature for example life cycles.

In Mathematics we have been finding number bonds to 10 and using first, then and now stories to create addition sentences.

In Phonics the reception children have been learning the phonemes p, i and n. They have been reading VC and CVC words and they have been showing us the graphemes they can write.

Week ending 8th October

Our enquiry question this week is: Why are the seasons important?

We have been thinking about what happens to the weather in each season and how that impacts different plants and animals.

Our new text this week was called 'How to grow a unicorn'.

We have been discussing the main events and thinking about what kind of plant we would grow if we had magical seeds.

In Mathematics the children used a 5 frame and a whole-part model to find different ways to make 5 (fact families).

In phonics the reception children have learnt two new phonemes ,a and t. We have been using the three phonemes the children know to read at, as and sat.

Week ending 1st October

Our enquiry question this week is: How does the world around us change in each season?

We have been discussing and recording the changing weather and observing the leaves changing colour in the school garden.

We have also been reflecting on other things that change.

The reception children also learnt the phoneme 's' this week.

In Mathematics we have been finding one more or one less.

Week ending 24th September

Our enquiry question this week is: What is weather?

We have been observing how the weather changes throughout the day and across the week.

We have been describing the weather and asking questions, for example why does it rain?

In Mathematics we have been counting forwards and backwards. The children have been creating number lines and number staircases.

Week ending 17th September

We have had a busy second week at school.

Our key text this week was Freddie and the Fairy. In the story Freddie wishes for different pets. The children have been creating different pets, making marks and using the sounds they know to show their ideas.

In Mathematics we have been counting accurately and learning to represent numbers with marks and objects.

We have also been exploring different media to create self portraits. The children have been looking in mirrors and drawing themselves using paint, whiteboard pens and the computer.

Week ending 10th September

We have had a great first week together. The children have been exploring the resources and learning lots of new things.

In Mathematics we have been learning to group objects and we have been using the words more, fewer and equal to compare them.
